Most of the photographs in this album were captured in Northeast Wisconsin in the winter of 2015, so they are mostly CN operating on former C&NW, GB&W, MILW, and SOO rails. Once in a while I try to catch ELS and WSOR on former MILW rails too.

Description:
CN local slowly crawls across the former C&NW bridge over the frigid Fox River as it prepares to service Expera Specialty Solutions mill (formerly Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co., from 1883 until 26 Jun. '13) at Kaukauna, WI on 4 Jan. '15. Railroad bridge was built by American Bridge Co. of New York in 1911. A portion of the old Thilmany mill, saved from the wrecking ball, is visible behind the locomotives. The current, newer, mill looms out of frame to the right. Kaukauna’s Veterans Memorial Bridge, the vertical lift bridge, reflects the last rays of the setting sun behind the remnants of the old mill.

IC 2459, IC 1032, GTW 4910
Description:
CN through freight slowly enters the S-curve at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 8 Jan. '15. After a brief stopover here, the train would continue on toward Green Bay. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are behind the locomotives. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened.

CN 8804, BCOL 4642, CN 2273
Description:
CN ore train approaches W. Forest Ave. as it crosses N. Water St. and crosses the Neenah Channel of the Fox River via the former joint MILW/SOO bridge at Neenah, WI on 8 Jan. '15. The head of the train is crawling over a mile through Neenah and into Menasha far enough for the train to clear the turnout at the east end of the wye. The train would then take the east leg of the wye into the yard, before eventually continuing on toward its destination. The building in the background, the corporate headquarters of Plexus, stands on the site of the former Glatfelter Paper mill (formerly Bergstrom Paper, originally Winnebago Paper), which stood for well over a century (the oldest part of the original mill was constructed in 1874) until it was torn down a few years ago.

They were formerly GB Elevator and Utica Energy, respectively, until they were purchased and renamed by Ace Ethanol in 2013. The elevator dates to at least 1910 and other former names include Didion Elevator and Strid Elevator. I wish I could have found a better shot of the interesting flatcar loads on the right.

CN local hauls five cars southward via former SOO rails and approaches the junction with the former GB&W right-of-way at Black Creek, WI on 21 Feb. '15. This section of the former GB&W right-of-way is now the Newton Blackmour State Trail. The roadbed of one of the tracks that formed the interchange is visible on the left. Train was returning to Neenah after working Shawano.

Description:
CN local hauls five cars southward past the former SOO yard at Appleton Junction, WI on 21 Feb. '15. This small yard used to serve as an interchange for the SOO and C&NW. Later it served as an intermodal yard for the WC. The trucks of the locomotive and freight cars are not visible because the train is descending a slight grade which will allow it to pass under the former C&NW tracks that run to New London, while the yard tracks maintain their level grade and connect with the former C&NW yard. Train was returning to Neenah after working Shawano.
