IC 2459, IC 1032, GTW 4910 |
Description: |
CN through freight slowly enters the S-curve at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 8 Jan. '15. After a brief stopover here, the train would continue on toward Green Bay. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are behind the locomotives. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. |

CN local heads southwest across the former joint MILW/SOO bridge over the Neenah Channel (South Channel) of the Fox River at Neenah, WI on 1 Jun. '15. It was enroute to the former SOO yard at Neenah after working Menasha, and likely points beyond. This view is looking east from Arrowhead Park, where the City of Neenah has conveniently placed a park bench from which rail fans can watch this bridge. |

CN local services RGL Holdings, Inc. via former GB&W rails at Green Bay, WI on 11 Aug. '15. Previous occupants of the facility include Leicht Transfer & Storage Co. The Cargill Coal Co. occupied the site on the 1907 Sanborn Map. I believe the C. Reiss Coal Co. briquette plant later occupied the site, but I don’t know for sure. |

CN local passes the former C&NW depot and Mile Post 0/243 at Green Bay, WI on 11 Aug. '15. The depot, designed by Charles Sumner Frost, was built in the Italian Renaissance Revival style and completed in 1899. Passenger train service ceased in 1971 but it was still used by the railroad for years. Since 1996 it has been home to Titletown Brewing Co. The depot is also a stop on the Green Bay Packers' Heritage Trail. |

GTW 4910 and CN 4100 |
Description: |
GTW 4910 idles away on the edge of the CN, former C&NW and SOO, yard while CN 4100 services the immense Verso Corp. paper mill (historically Consolidated Papers), mostly just out of frame to the left and right, via former GB&W rails at Wisconsin Rapids, WI on 4 Jul. '17. C&NW and SOO had parallel yards here, approximately 4 tracks each ca. 1973. Both roads used to cross the GB&W just out of frame to the right. A junction of the MILW and GB&W was close to where CN 4100 rests. This portion of Wisconsin Rapids, formerly Grand Rapids, was known as West Rapids, shortened to Westrap on some old maps and railroad documents. The over pass is 4th Ave. N./Hwy. 13/Hwy. 34. |

Description: |
A CN through freight parallels W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. and passes a waiting local as it heads southwest via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI on 6 Apr. '18. The local was headed for Appleton, Little Chute, and Kaukauna. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16). The former SOO rails run parallel on the other side of the trains. Modern maps tend to omit the W. from W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. for some reason, it is also absent on the current street sign. Some old maps include the W., some old maps omit the W. |

Description: |
A CN local parallels Ehlers Rd. and approaches Towmen Rd. as it heads northeast at Shawano Junction, WI, on 20 Feb. '22. Local was headed for Appleton, Little Chute and Kaukauna. The local is transitioning from the former SOO rails to the former C&NW rails. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. |
