Title:  IC 2459, IC 1032, GTW 4910
Description:  CN through freight slowly enters the S-curve at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 8 Jan. '15. After a brief stopover here, the train would continue on toward Green Bay. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are behind the locomotives. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened.

Description:  CN local heads southwest across the former joint MILW/SOO bridge over the Neenah Channel (South Channel) of the Fox River at Neenah, WI on 1 Jun. '15. It was enroute to the former SOO yard at Neenah after working Menasha, and likely points beyond. This view is looking east from Arrowhead Park, where the City of Neenah has conveniently placed a park bench from which rail fans can watch this bridge.

Title:  GTW 4910
Description:  CN local services RGL Holdings, Inc. via former GB&W rails at Green Bay, WI on 11 Aug. '15. Previous occupants of the facility include Leicht Transfer & Storage Co. The Cargill Coal Co. occupied the site on the 1907 Sanborn Map. I believe the C. Reiss Coal Co. briquette plant later occupied the site, but I don’t know for sure.

Title:  GTW 4910
Description:  CN local passes the former C&NW depot and Mile Post 0/243 at Green Bay, WI on 11 Aug. '15. The depot, designed by Charles Sumner Frost, was built in the Italian Renaissance Revival style and completed in 1899. Passenger train service ceased in 1971 but it was still used by the railroad for years. Since 1996 it has been home to Titletown Brewing Co. The depot is also a stop on the Green Bay Packers' Heritage Trail.

GTW 4910 and CN 4100
Title:  GTW 4910 and CN 4100
Description:  GTW 4910 idles away on the edge of the CN, former C&NW and SOO, yard while CN 4100 services the immense Verso Corp. paper mill (historically Consolidated Papers), mostly just out of frame to the left and right, via former GB&W rails at Wisconsin Rapids, WI on 4 Jul. '17. C&NW and SOO had parallel yards here, approximately 4 tracks each ca. 1973. Both roads used to cross the GB&W just out of frame to the right. A junction of the MILW and GB&W was close to where CN 4100 rests. This portion of Wisconsin Rapids, formerly Grand Rapids, was known as West Rapids, shortened to Westrap on some old maps and railroad documents. The over pass is 4th Ave. N./Hwy. 13/Hwy. 34.

Title:  GECX 2036, CN 2902, CN 9424, GTW 4910
Description:  A CN through freight parallels W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. and passes a waiting local as it heads southwest via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI on 6 Apr. '18. The local was headed for Appleton, Little Chute, and Kaukauna. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16). The former SOO rails run parallel on the other side of the trains. Modern maps tend to omit the W. from W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. for some reason, it is also absent on the current street sign. Some old maps include the W., some old maps omit the W.

IC 9632 and GTW 4910
Title:  IC 9632 and GTW 4910
Description:  A CN local works the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 8 Feb. '20. This view would have been prevented by the dominating silhouette of the original Neenah Foundry facility, later known as Plant 1, which stood here for over ¾’s of a century. Established in 1872 as Aylward Plow Works (a.k.a. Aylward & Sons) at 120 N. Lake St., they erected a new foundry at 500 W. Winneconne Ave. in 1918 “in a rural area of southwestern Neenah.” The name of Neenah Foundry was adopted in 1922. Expanded numerous times over the years, it became Plant 1 in 1960 when Plant 2 was constructed in the then rural area at the intersection of Byrd Ave. and the aptly named Aylward St. (followed by Plant 3 in 1967). Plant 1 was closed in 1994, the corporate overlords didn’t want to spend any money to update the plant. It stood abandoned for a while and was eventually demolished.

Description:  A CN local crosses the junction with the former C&NW right-of-way, now the Mountain-Bay State Trail, as it heads northwest via former SOO rails at Shawano, WI, on 27 Feb. '21. The interlocking tower that guarded the junction stood to the right, south of SOO tracks and east of C&NW tracks, until it was torn down circa 1995. I thought the tower stood by the clump of trees to the left, but a review of others' photographs on rrpicturearchives.net as well as some old maps has proven that my recollection of the tower's location was erroneous. There are remnants of a foundation there, but it must have been something else.

Title:  IC 9563 and GTW 4910
Description:  A CN local slowly bisects the intersection of W. College Ave./Hwy. 125 with S. Memorial Dr./N. Richmond St./Hwy. 47 as it heads northeast via former C&NW rails at Appleton, WI, on 5 Mar. '22. Railroad employees have to flag the crossing and the crew has to sound their horn because the signals have been malfunctioning for several weeks. The CN has attempted to repair the signals but they haven't been able to locate the problem. According to an article in the Post-Crescent on 27 Feb. '22, "The only remaining remedy is for the railway to completely replace the crossing, including all of the foundation materials. That work cannot happen until the ground thaws and the hot-mix asphalt plants open in late April or early May." The interesting brick building partially visible to the left is Good Company, a restaurant established in 1980. It was built between 1895 and ‘01 by the Marshall Paper Co. (a.k.a. Marshall Bros. Wholesale Paper or Marshall Bros. Paper), founded in ‘93. The last surviving partner retired in 1942. The facility was used for a warehouse by Kimberly-Clark (K-C) from at least ‘45 to at least ‘60. It was home to Appleton Furniture Mart ca. ‘74 to ‘77. Baxter’s Beef and Pizza Co. opened here in ‘77.
