Could this be the old MILW freight house at Merrill, WI?
Description:
Looking west along the CN, former MILW, rails from Nast St. in Merrill, WI on 13 Oct. '13. The building on the right looks an awful lot like an old freight house. Plus it has two station signs, Merrill on the east end and Jenny, the original name of the community, on the west end. The name was changed to Merrill in honor of S. S. Merrill, 1st general manager of MILW. It could possibly be the old MILW freight house. It is a block east of where the old, original, MILW depot stood and about half a block east of where the engine house was. It is known as the “Potato Warehouse,” that is what the sign above the door says, and it is labeled as such on the 1926 Sanborn map. It may have became a potato warehouse after a new freight house next to a new depot 10 blocks to the northwest started to be used. It is currently used for storage by River Street Properties, LLC, the company that recently restored the building. Unfortunately this is largely speculation based on old maps and photographs.

The wide eaves are supported by ornate steel brackets. The building on W. Oneida St. has been used by D. J. Fence Co. since at least 1992.

Looking west along the WSOR, former MILW, rails at Avoca, WI on 26 Jun. '14. The wig-wag signal on the right guards the N. 6th St. grade crossing. Other photos of it on this website depict it operational as recent as 28 Aug. '13. The Avoca depot, built by the Milwaukee & Mississippi Railroad in 1858, is the white with red building to the left, south, of the team track. The depot’s current location is about a block east of its original location. The move likely occurred in 1958, when the depot was converted to a feed mill, which ceased operation on New Year’s Eve in 1997. Before 1912 there was a union depot that served both roads. According to the mailbox by the door, Santa Claus runs a satellite office out of this depot (see close-up at lower right).

MILW Green Bay, WI Depot
Description:
The south and east walls of the former MILW depot at Green Bay, WI on 24 Sep. '14. The depot, designed by Charles Sumner Frost, was built in 1898 in the Flemish Renaissance Revival style. The railroad abandoned it after they built a new depot at their Oakland yard, where passenger service commenced 15 Jan. '58. They deeded it to Green Bay on 17 Dec. '57. The railroad's Women's Club threw a party at the depot the evening of 11 Jan. '58 under the name “Operation Farewell.” About 200 active and retired MILW employees and city officials mingled, ate and danced long into the night. Music was provided by an orchestra from the Bay School of Music. The Chamber of Commerce occupied the building for many years and there have been other short-lived tenants from time to time. It is currently home to Breakthrough Fuel. The depot is also a stop on the new Green Bay Packers' Heritage Trail because the team traveled to some of their road games from here and were often welcomed by ardent fans upon their return to Green Bay. The former right of way on the west side of the depot is now the Fox River State Trail which runs from Hilbert to Green Bay.

The depot was built by the Milwaukee & Northern ca. 1884, the year they reached Pike, later renamed Amberg. The depot stood east of the tracks, between Coleman Ave. and Amberg Rd., I believe. It has been moved to Amberg Museum Complex, about 2 1/2 blocks southwest of its original location and 180 degrees to its original orientation. Some modifications were made to the depot over the years, it used to be twice as long (with the bay window near the center of the building), the gable ends both have Dutch lap siding instead of the original vertical board-and-batten, the eave on the original south gable end has been shortened, the decorative gable brackets are missing, and the windows in the south gable end wall are gone. CN 8804, BCOL 4642, CN 2273 at MILW Neenah, WI Depot
Description:
CN ore train passes the former MILW depot as it crawls southwest via the former joint MILW/SOO rails at Neenah, WI on 8 Jan. '15. The depot was built by Milwaukee & Northern in 1882 and is home to the Neenah-Menasha Model Railroad Club. The head of the train had crawled over a mile through Neenah and into Menasha far enough for the train to clear the turnout at the east end of the wye. The train has now reversed to take the east leg of the wye into the yard, before eventually continuing on toward its destination.

MILW/WSOR Horicon, WI Depot
Description:
WSOR local has parked next to the former MILW depot at Horicon, WI after completing a trip to Oshkosh and back on Memorial Day, 25 May ‘15. The current depot dates to ca. 1915. The Wis. Railroad Commission, after hearing complaints from the Horicon Advancement Assn., ordered MILW to construct a new depot. The previous depot, built ca. 1888, was deemed too small, outdated, and unsanitary. I haven't been able to determine if this was new construction or if the existing depot was expanded and updated (comparing historic photographs it seems like the later).

Title:
MILW Mayville, WI Depot
Description:
The southwest and southeast (originally northeast and northwest) walls of the former MILW Mayville, WI depot now located at Kekoskee, WI, as seen on 31 May '15. It has been moved about 2 miles northwest of its original site in the northeast quadrant of the intersection of N. Walnut St. and Dayton St., originally Fremont and Clark Sts., respectively, in Mayville by the Kekoskee/Williamstown Historical Society after they acquired it in 2007. It is being rehabilitated to serve as their museum. The depot has been significantly modified, it has been shortened from its original length, the large overhangs at the eaves and gables have been cut back, all of the eave brackets are missing, the gable brackets on the northeast end have been damaged, the gable brackets from the southwest end are missing, and the walls of the bay window no longer reach all the way to the roof. MILW Mayville, WI Depot
Description:
The southeast and northeast (originally northwest and southwest) walls of the former MILW Mayville, WI depot now located at Kekoskee, WI, as seen on 31 May '15. It has been moved about 2 miles northwest of its original site in the northeast quadrant of the intersection of N. Walnut St. and Dayton St., originally Fremont and Clark Sts., respectively, in Mayville by the Kekoskee/Williamstown Historical Society after they acquired it in 2007. It is being rehabilitated to serve as their museum. The depot has been significantly modified, it has been shortened from its original length, the large overhangs at the eaves and gables have been cut back, all of the eave brackets are missing, the gable brackets on the northeast end have been damaged, the gable brackets from the southwest end are missing, and the walls of the bay window no longer reach all the way to the roof. I don't know if these modifications were caused by the current or previous owners, but the current owners have built a small addition on the current northern end of the southeast wall.

Description:
The west and north walls of the former MILW depot on W. Main St. at S. 6th St. at Winneconne, WI, as seen on 7 Jun. '15, three days shy of the 42nd anniversary of the last train in town. This is the 2nd depot at Winneconne, WI. The original depot was built by Milwaukee & St. Paul in 1868 on its Ripon to Berlin/Winneconne line, when this section of the branch was laid. That depot burned down on 24 Sep. 1871. The current depot was completed by the Milwaukee & St. Paul in Nov. 1871. The depot was purchased by the Winneconne Historical Society in 1968 and was moved about 1,900 feet, nearly due west, from its original location on N. 1st St. just north of W. Main St. The last train in Winneconne ran on 10 Jun. '73 and the rails were pulled about 6 mos. later. The depot has been well-maintained and houses some nice railroad and local history artifacts. A beautifully restored MILW Fairmont speeder, MILW 8171, and SOO rail cart are spotted in front of the depot. Several other historic buildings have been moved and preserved near the depot and also house exhibits.

It was a passenger depot built by the Milwaukee & Northern on the northeast side of the main line at the intersection of Grande St. (now E. Grand St.), Adams St., and Division St. (now E. Main St.). It dates to at least 1892, but it may be the original depot from when the line was laid in 1872. If it was first depot, it was originally about half as long as it is now. It was moved about 600 feet to the southeast, its current location, and converted to a freight house after a new depot was built near the original site, but on the southwest side of the mainline, between 1904 and 1914 (the site is currently occupied by Reinl Accounting). The early village was originally named Stantonville, in honor of Moses Stanton, founder. The land was purchased by John Marygold in 1852 and he changed the name to Chilington, his hometown in England. He sent a request to the county seat, then Stockbridge, to make the name change official. A miscommunication resulted in the middle syllable being lost to history and the name became Chilton.

Looking at southeast and northeast walls of the former MILW passenger and freight depot along the CP rails at Columbus, WI on 11 Nov. '15. The depot dates to at least 1885 according to the Sanborn maps, some references state 1870s. It is wood-framed with brick veneer. This end, slightly wider than the remainder of the building, was the passenger end. When the new passenger depot (out of frame to left) was built in 1906, this became the freight house. I don't know when the railroad stopped using it, but it obviously became part of the Caldwell Lumber Co. quite a while ago.

MILW Sherwood, WI Depot
Description:
The former MILW depot at Sherwood, WI on 27 Aug. '16. Built by the CM&StP ca. 1895 at what used to be referred to as Lower Sherwood. A 1971 newspaper article states that it was “remodeled in 1956 from a freight house, when the large depot, station and living quarters was razed.” It was used by MILW and SOO until at least 1971, when they requested permission to close it. The initial request was denied, but it probably wasn’t used much longer. It must be the smallest union depot I've ever seen. It has been moved and is an outbuilding on a farm.

MILW Elkhart Lake, WI, Depot
Description:
The southwest and southeast walls of the 1871 M&N depot at Elkhart Lake, WI, on 30 May '20. Some references state that the depot was built in 1870, others say 1872; it was most likely built in 1871, when the rails were laid. It is currently home to Off the Rail, a café at 44 Gottfried St., Elkhart Lake, WI. Some references state that the depot was moved to this spot for use by the feed mill after the 1897 MILW depot (out-of-frame to the right) was completed. The former Elkhart Lake Feed Mill is partially visible in the background. I haven't learned when the feed mill was built, but it dates to at least 1906, the year the Farmers’ Mercantile and Supply Co. was organized.
