This community is easily confused with nearby Readfield, but the unincorporated community of North Readfield is distinct from the community of Readfield, which lies 1 mile due south.

Train was headed from Stevens Point to Green Bay and had two locomotives, CN 5641 pulling and CN 2136 pushing. The spur used to serve several industries, Appvion is the only current customer.

The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are partially visible at left. The rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties rest atop the remnants of the foundation. The masonry depot was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened.

A CN container train parallels Harrison St. and approaches the W. Cecil St. overpass (Timothy Hamblin Bridge) as it heads northeast past the south end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 10 Aug. '18. The beige facility in the background is Voith (Voith Paper Fabric & Roll Systems, Inc.), 375 Byrd Ave. They have two spurs, but the turnout which once connected them to active rails has been gone for quite a while. Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 are visible beyond that. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about half-a-mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished. The silo of American Colloid Co., 901 Acco Ave., an active rail customer, is visible in the background to the right. A remnant of the former C&NW main line can be seen at left.

Description:
A southbound CN unit train of 2-bay covered hoppers passes the depot/yard office and the sad remnants of the former C&NW yard at Oshkosh, WI on 29 May '17. The depot/yard office sits at the approximate location of the C&NW’s South Oshkosh depot, a smaller, plainer structure than their once ornate Oshkosh depot which still stands less than a mile to the north. Historically, everything south of the Fox River was once known as South Oshkosh. The C&NW South Oshkosh depot was saved from demolition, but its current fate is unknown to me. I have seen post-relocation photographs of it on the internet, but they do not reveal its precise location. Some references state it was moved to downtown Oshkosh, others state it was moved to a park in Oshkosh. If it still survives, I have not found it yet. The yard was torn up in Aug. '16. There had been no cars spotted here since at least 31 Jan. '16. They did leave the passing siding and team track.

Description:
CN container train parallels Hwy. 41 and passes American Colloid Co. as it heads southwest via former SOO rails at Snells, WI on 28 Feb. '18. American Colloid is serviced by CN via former C&NW rails. Snells, formerly known as Snell’s Station or Snell’s Crossing, is now little more than a map dot in the Town of Neenah, Winnebago Co. This small, rural community once included a post office, depot, cheese factory, sawmill, school, and stockyard. Snells was located at Mile 183 on the SOO’s Trevor to Somerset line and Mile 173.1 on the C&NW’s Milwaukee to Marinette line. I do not know if each railroad had their own small depot, or if one small depot served both railroads, I suspect it was the latter. It does not look like any real remnants of the original community remain. Even the station sign, erected after the depot was removed, is gone.

A significant mechanical failure left the pivot inoperable from 2003 until the fall of 2011, when it was converted into a vertical lift bridge. According to bridgehunter.com, it "is likely the only vertical-lift bridge in the world with a center lift tower".

Description:
A northbound CN through freight passes the depot/yard office and the sad remnants of the former C&NW yard at Oshkosh, WI on 24 Dec. '16. Train had four locomotives, CN 2849, CN 2885, CN 8851, CN 2169. The depot/yard office sits at the approximate location of the C&NW's South Oshkosh depot, a smaller, plainer structure than their once ornate Oshkosh depot which still stands less than a mile to the north. Historically, everything south of the Fox River was once known as South Oshkosh. The C&NW South Oshkosh depot was saved from demolition, but its current fate is unknown to me. I have seen post-relocation photographs of it on the internet, but they do not reveal its precise location. Some references state it was moved to downtown Oshkosh, others state it was moved to a park in Oshkosh. If it still survives, I have not found it yet. The yard was torn up in Aug. '16. There had been no cars spotted here since at least 31 Jan. '16. They did leave the passing siding and team track.

MWCX 462747 (former CNW 753735, former ROCK 801224), was 1 of a string of cars spotted on a passing siding along the adjacent former C&NW main line. CNA 405589 was part of the consist of a CN through freight halted upon the former C&NW main line. Neenah's Southpark Industrial Center (industrial park is too plebeian for oft ostentatious Neenah) is visible in the background, including Innovative Machining, LLC, 550 Commerce Ct.
