BNSF 748 and CN 2338
Title:  BNSF 748 and CN 2338
Description:  A CN through freight parallels W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. as it heads southwest via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI on 3 May '18. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16 (not Outagamie Co., where Stroebe was erroneously placed on this site)). Train had two locomotives, BNSF 748 (don't see Warbonnets around here too often) and CN 2338. The former SOO rails are visible beyond the train. The facility in the background has a spur running into it, but the current occupant (since Fall of '06), SERVPRO of Appleton, does not appear to benefit from rail service. The facility was once home to Viking Steel.

BNSF 4573 and CN 2530
Title:  BNSF 4573 and CN 2530
Description:  A CN train traverses the west leg of the wye as it backs into the north end of the former SOO yard to set out and pick up caps at Neenah, WI on 18 Aug. '18. On the far side of the train lies Arrowhead Park, a closed paper sludge landfill. Before the landfill was opened in the '50s, the south shore of Little Lake Butte des Morts came right up to the north leg of the wye, partially visible to the left of the lead locomotive. At right, a large quantity of fill is being added to the eastern half of the park, in preparation of future improvements. The Fox Valley Energy Center (formerly Minergy Fox Valley Glass Aggregate Plant) dominated the eastern half of the landfill from its opening in Jan. '98 until demolition was completed in the spring of '16. The former C&NW bridge, now part of the Friendship Trail (often erroneously referred to as the Trestle Trail), can be seen in the background. The Roland Kampo Bridge, a.k.a. the Polish Connection, can be seen beyond that.

Arrowhead Park, a closed paper sludge landfill, lies beyond the trains. Before the landfill was opened in the '50s, the south shore of Little Lake Butte des Morts came right up to the north leg of the wye, partially visible between the lead locomotives. At right, a large quantity of fill is being added to the eastern half of the park, in preparation of future improvements. The Fox Valley Energy Center (formerly Minergy Fox Valley Glass Aggregate Plant) dominated the eastern half of the landfill from its opening in Jan. The Roland Kampo Bridge, a.k.a. the Polish Connection, can be seen beyond that. The foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot can be seen beyond the dumpsters at left. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. Train to the right was backing into the yard to set out and pick up cars and had two locomotives. Train to the left was just passing through.

CN 2274, CN 2543, BCOL 4602
Title:  CN 2274, CN 2543, BCOL 4602
Description:  A CN through freight traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard and approaches the Main St. overpass at Neenah, WI, on 26 Nov. '20. Train had three locomotives, CN 2274, CN 2543, BCOL 4602. First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Church St., is partially visible above the second locomotive. The clock tower of the once impressive 1888 city hall building, intersection of S. Commercial St. and W. Doty St., looks like a church steeple from this perspective, but it is a block east of the church. Some of Neenah's bland, unimaginative, modern buildings, posing as architecture, stand in the background to the left. I am not a fan of modern architecture, obviously. The Holiday gas station stood somewhere in the foreground before the Main St. overpass was built.

Description:  CN through freight passes the Main St. overpass and traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 5 Jul. '15. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are to the right of the locomotives. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. The City of Neenah has conveniently placed a park bench here in Arrowhead Park so rail fans can watch trains go by.
