IC 1008, CN 2935, et al.
Title:  IC 1008, CN 2935, et al.
Description:  CN container train passes the Main St. overpass and traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard as it overtakes a halted mix freight at Neenah, WI on 23 Jul. '15. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are near the right edge of the photograph. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. Container train had two locomotives, IC 1008 and CN 5628. Mixed freight had two locomotives, CN 2935 and BCOL 4609. There is a convenient park bench here in Arrowhead Park, a nice spot to relax and watch trains go by.

CN 2303 and IC 1017
Title:  CN 2303 and IC 1017
Description:  CN through freight crosses the Wolf River via the former SOO bridge as it heads southeast at Gills Landing, WI on 12 Aug. '14. The bridge was built as a swing bridge in 1894. A significant mechanical failure left the pivot inoperable from 2003 until the fall of 2011, when it was converted into a vertical lift bridge. According to bridgehunter.com, it "is likely the only vertical-lift bridge in the world with a center lift tower".

CN 5632 and IC 1018
Title:  CN 5632 and IC 1018
Description:  CN through freight heads southeast via former SOO rails at Fremont Station, WI on 2 May '14. The station sign says Fremont and it is listed as such on CN’s system map, but the nearest point of the Fremont city limits is over 2 miles to the southwest, as the crow flies. This location is labeled Fremont Sidings on some maps and, technically, there are two sidings here. The passing siding is still used, but the industrial siding that used to serve at least three industries has not been used for years.

CN 2194 and IC 1037 at C&NW/CN Oshkosh, WI Yard Office
Title:  CN 2194 and IC 1037 at C&NW/CN Oshkosh, WI Yard Office
Description:  A northbound CN through freight approaches the yard office at the unusually empty former C&NW yard at Oshkosh, WI on 10 Feb. '16. Normally this view of the facility is blocked by the cars in the yard. I've never seen this yard completely empty. The taller building to the right, north, of the yard office sits at the approximate location of the C&NW's South Oshkosh depot, a smaller, plainer structure than their once ornate Oshkosh depot which still stands less than a mile to the north. Historically, everything south of the Fox River was once known as South Oshkosh. The C&NW South Oshkosh depot was saved from demolition, but its current fate is unknown to me. I have seen post-relocation photographs of it on the internet, but they do not reveal its precise location. Some references state it was moved to downtown Oshkosh, others state it was moved to a park in Oshkosh. If it still survives, I have not found it yet.

CN 2581, IC 1039, CN 2637
Title:  CN 2581, IC 1039, CN 2637
Description:  A trio of CN locomotives rest on a remnant of the former GB&W main line at Amherst Junction, WI on 7 Mar. '15. The bridge crosses Hwy. KK, which used to be U.S. 10. I am curious to learn why that many axles were halted there, on a truncated remnant of a former main line. I doubt they would devote that much horsepower to service Frontier-Servco FS, out of frame to the left.
