Title:  UP 4693, CEFX 6007 (ex-SOO 6007), GECX 2036, et al.
Description:  A through freight with a large, interesting selection of motive power rests on CN, former C&NW, rails at W. Bell St. at Neenah, WI on 24 Nov. '18. Train had five locomotives, UP 4596, UP 8501, UP 4693, CEFX 6007 (former SOO 6007), GECX 2036. I don’t encounter former SOO equipment this close to former SOO rails often enough. Neenah's Southpark Industrial Center (industrial park is too plebeian for oft ostentatious Neenah) is visible in the background, including Faith Technologies, Inc., 585 Enterprise Dr., (a former Plexus Corp. facility).

GECX 2036 and CN 2902
Title:  GECX 2036 and CN 2902
Description:  A CN through freight crosses Stroebe Rd. and parallels W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. as it heads southwest via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI on 6 Apr. '18. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16). The former SOO rails run parallel to the left. The Great Northern Corp. facility is partially visible in the background at left. They have a spur, but have not received rail service for quite a while. Modern maps tend to omit the W. from W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. for some reason, it is also absent on the current street sign. Some old maps include the W., some old maps omit the W.

CN 2984, GECX 2038, et al.
Title:  CN 2984, GECX 2038, et al.
Description:  A CN through freight parallels Ehlers Rd. and approaches Towmen Rd. as it heads northeast via former SOO rails at Shawano Junction, Fox Crossing, Winnebago Co., WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016) on 9 May. '20. Train had three locomotives, CN 2984, GECX 2038, CN 5273. The train is about to transition to the former C&NW rails. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. Some work is under way to prepare for the installation of some brand new signals. Evidence of some illegal dumping can also be seen.

CN 3805 and GECX 2039
Title:  CN 3805 and GECX 2039
Description:  A CN container train crosses Kampo Rd. and approaches the W. Bell St. overpass as it heads southwest via a remnant of the former C&NW main line, now relegated to a passing siding, at Neenah, WI on 19 Jun. '18. Train had two locomotives, CN 3805 and GECX 2039. To the right of the lead locomotive are the remnants of a spur for the two warehouses to the right, but the turnout that connected them to the siding has been gone for years. A new turnout rests between the two sets of tracks by Kampo Rd. It will soon replace an existing turnout which is used to service Neenah's Southpark Industrial Center from the former C&NW passing siding. The former SOO main line is at left. Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 can be seen in the background. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished.

CN 2807 and GECX 2042
Title:  CN 2807 and GECX 2042
Description:  CN container train parallels Hwy. 41 and approaches the Hwy. G overpass as it head southwest via former SOO rails at Snells, WI on 27 Jan. '18. Snells, formerly known as Snell’s Station or Snell’s Crossing, is now little more than a map dot in the Town of Neenah, Winnebago Co. This small, rural community once included a post office, depot, cheese factory, sawmill, school, and stockyard. Snells was located at Mile 183 on the SOO’s Trevor to Somerset line and Mile 173.1 on the C&NW’s Milwaukee to Marinette line. I do not know if each railroad had their own small depot, or if one small depot served both railroads, I suspect it was the latter. It does not look like any real remnants of the original community remain. Even the station sign, erected after the depot was removed, is gone.
