CN 3058 and CN 2807 |
Description: |
CN through freight approaches the Main St. over pass as it traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 10 Apr. '16. The remnants of the ca. '60s SOO depot's foundation is partially visible to the left of the lead locomotive, some rail sections supported by concrete blocks rest atop the foundation. It was constructed of masonry and replaced the wooden depot that used to stand at Sherry St., about 850 feet to the southeast. The silo toward the left is Eggers Industries, 164 N. Lake St., Neenah, WI, a periodic rail customer. The industry partially visible on the right is Clearwater Paper Corp., 249 N. Lake St., Neenah, WI (physically located in Town of Menasha), a frequent rail customer. Train had three locomotives, CN 3058, CN 2807, and CN 2845. |

CN 2827, CN 2807, et al. |
Description: |
CN through freight bisects the CHS Larsen Cooperative - Readfield grain terminal and fertilizer facility as it heads east via former SOO rails at North Readfield, WI on 28 Oct. '17. Larsen Cooperative merged with CHS, Inc. on 1 Sep. '12. At right, a railcar mover positions covered hoppers for loading. The idle Proppant Specialists, LLC, facility is partially visible at left. Train had three locomotives, CN 2827 and CN 2807 up front and CN 2909 mid-train. Some confuse North Readfield with slightly larger Readfield, 1 mile to the south. This is likely due, in part, because everything in the former has a mailing address of the latter. The pair of unincorporated communities are distinct, and the latter has no railroad tracks. |

CN 2807 and GECX 2042 |
Description: |
CN container train parallels Hwy. 41 and approaches the Hwy. G overpass as it head southwest via former SOO rails at Snells, WI on 27 Jan. '18. Snells, formerly known as Snell’s Station or Snell’s Crossing, is now little more than a map dot in the Town of Neenah, Winnebago Co. This small, rural community once included a post office, depot, cheese factory, sawmill, school, and stockyard. Snells was located at Mile 183 on the SOO’s Trevor to Somerset line and Mile 173.1 on the C&NW’s Milwaukee to Marinette line. I do not know if each railroad had their own small depot, or if one small depot served both railroads, I suspect it was the latter. It does not look like any real remnants of the original community remain. Even the station sign, erected after the depot was removed, is gone. |
