Description:
CN through freight slows to halt along Union St. at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 28 Apr. '16. Train had four locomotives, CN 8813, CN 2915, CN 3006, IC 1201. The lead locomotive is passing the former Sherry St. grade crossing. The WC (later SOO) depot was built on the north side of Sherry St. on the east side of the tracks in 1891. It replaced the ca. 1881 depot that stood at the west end of Wisconsin Ave. The Sherry St. depot was demolished ca. 1955 when a new depot was built between Main St. and N. Lake St. on the west leg of the wye, about 850 ft. to the northwest.

Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 form part of the backdrop at right. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished.

CN container train approaches Hwy. M as it heads northwest via former SOO rails at Medina Station, Town of Dale, Outagamie Co., WI on a foggy 21 Jan. '17. Train had two locomotives, CN 8823 pulling and CN 8845 mid-train. The WC built a depot here somewhere between 1871, when the line was laid, and 1889, when I recently found it depicted on a map. The site was labeled as Medina Station on maps until at least 1915. The depot stood approximately where the CN microwave tower now stands, behind me.

A CN through freight pauses on the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 7 Jan. '20. Train was preparing to set out and pick up cars and had three locomotives, CN 5706, CN 8832, CN 5696. The historic Neenah Stove Works, currently occupied by Hafemeister Machine Corp., 635 Main St., and International Children's Fund, 619 Main St., can be seen in the background. The oldest part of the facility dates to 1857, when the Moore & Wells foundry was established. The north leg of the wye can also be seen. To the right lies some evidence of illegal dumping at Arrowhead Park.

Description:
A southbound CN container train passes the depot/yard office and the sad remnants of the former C&NW yard at Oshkosh, WI on 25 Jun. '17. The depot/yard office sits at the approximate location of the C&NW’s South Oshkosh depot, a smaller, plainer structure than their once ornate Oshkosh depot which still stands less than a mile to the north. Historically, everything south of the Fox River was once known as South Oshkosh. The C&NW South Oshkosh depot was saved from demolition, but its current fate is unknown to me. I have seen post-relocation photographs of it on the internet, but they do not reveal its precise location. Some references state it was moved to downtown Oshkosh, others state it was moved to a park in Oshkosh. If it still survives, I have not found it yet. The yard was torn up in Aug. '16. There had been no cars spotted here since at least 31 Jan. '16. They did leave the passing siding and team track. The new bascule bridge over the Fox River is visible at right, it was completed in Aug. '13 to replace the 1899 swing bridge.

Train had two locomotives, CN 8823 pulling and CN 8845 mid-train. The WC built a depot here somewhere between 1871, when the line was laid, and 1889, when I recently found it depicted on a map. The site was labeled as Medina Station on maps until at least 1915. The depot stood approximately where the CN microwave tower now stands, just out-of-frame to the right.

Description:
A CN container train passes a halted through freight and traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 7 Sep. '20. It looks like some new, concrete railroad ties will be installed on the main line soon. I've never seen these around here before. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot can be seen near the center of the scene. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. On the far side of the train lies Arrowhead Park, a closed paper sludge landfill. Before the landfill was opened in the '50s, the south shore of Little Lake Butte des Morts came right up to the north leg of the wye (partially visible in the background). Train had two locomotives, CN 2282 pulling as well as CN 8846 pushing.
