CN 2562 and CN 5778
Title:  CN 2562 and CN 5778
Description:  CN container train crosses the new CN bascule bridge over the mouth of the Fox River and passes the depot/yard office as it heads south through the former C&NW yard at Oshkosh, WI on 23 Jul. '15. The bridge was completed in Aug. '13 to replace the 1899 C&NW swing bridge. The taller building behind, north, of the depot/yard office sits at the approximate location of the C&NW's South Oshkosh depot, a smaller, more plain structure than their once ornate Oshkosh depot which still stands less than a mile to the north. Historically, everything south of the Fox River was once known as South Oshkosh. The C&NW South Oshkosh depot was saved from demolition, but its current fate is unknown to me. I have seen post-relocation photographs of it on the internet, but they do not reveal its precise location. Some old references state it was moved to downtown Oshkosh, others state it was moved to a park in Oshkosh.

CN 2562 and CN 5778
Title:  CN 2562 and CN 5778
Description:  CN container train crosses E. 14th Ave. as it heads south through the former C&NW yard at Oshkosh, WI on 23 Jul. '15. Trains do not ordinarily sound their horn here, but this engineer had to because a handful of juveniles were dragging their bicycles over the tracks to go fishing a short distance to the right.

CN 5640 and CN 2562
Title:  CN 5640 and CN 2562
Description:  CN through freight passes the Main St. overpass and the remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot on the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 14 May '17. The rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties rest atop the remnants of the foundation. The masonry depot was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened.

BNSF 4526, CN 2562, et al.
Title:  BNSF 4526, CN 2562, et al.
Description:  An unusual pair of CN through freights rest on former C&NW main line and siding at Stroebe, WI on 3 Feb. '18. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16 (not Outagamie Co., where Stroebe was erroneously placed on this site)). Train at left had two locomotives, BNSF 4526 and CN 2588. Train at right had two locomotives, CN 2562 and CN 2283. Adding to the unusualness, a pair of BNSF units were parked on the crossover from the former SOO rails to the C&NW rails at the northeast end of Stroebe siding.

CN 2562 and CN 2283
Title:  CN 2562 and CN 2283
Description:  After a halt at Stroebe (out-of-frame to left), a CN through freight crosses over from the former C&NW rails to the former SOO rails at Shawano Junction, WI on 3 Feb. '18. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails.

CN 2562 and CN 2283
Title:  CN 2562 and CN 2283
Description:  CN through freight passes Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 as it heads southwest via a remnant of the former C&NW main line (now relegated to a passing siding) at Neenah, WI on 3 Feb. '18. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished. The former SOO main line, also in use by CN, is in the foreground. I had photographed this same train at Stroebe, WI two hours earlier.

Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 are partially visible in the background. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. CN 5673 and CN 2562
Title:  CN 5673 and CN 2562
Description:  A CN through freight passes the depot/yard office and approaches W. 2nd St. as it heads northeast past the former C&NW yard at Appleton Junction, WI on 12 Sep. '19. The white building beyond the train is the former home of the Harry H. Long Moving and Storage Co., 1001 S. Douglas St., Appleton, WI. This building dates to at least 1953, when it was listed in the local directory (it was not listed in ’51). The building has a spur, but it hasn’t been used for quite a while (except for occasional MoW equipment). Now called Harry H. Long Moving Storage & Express, Inc., the company, founded in 1917, is still family owned. It moved to a larger facility in Town of Clayton, Winnebago Co., WI in 2001.
