It became Valley Packaging Industries Inc. ca. mid- or late-'80s. After they moved to a new facility, this one has been home to Valley Planing Mill, Inc., followed by Perfect Patterns, Inc., and most recently as extra warehouse space for All About Packaging, Inc.

CN 3800, CREX 1511, CN 2848
Title:  CN 3800, CREX 1511, CN 2848
Description:  A CN through freight passes the remnants of the former C&NW yard as it heads southwest at Oshkosh, WI on 18 Jun. '18. Train had three locomotives, CN 3800, CREX 1511, CN 2848. A cut of cars rests by the depot/yard office and a gondola rests on the team track. I was thrilled to find these cars here, because I thought it meant the local had made a daylight run (the Oshkosh local seems to usually be a nocturnal run). I waited for quite a while, but didn't see or hear any other signs of the local's presence. The depot/yard office sits at the approximate location of the C&NW's South Oshkosh depot, a smaller, plainer structure than their once ornate Oshkosh depot which still stands less than a mile to the north. Historically, everything south of the Fox River was once known as South Oshkosh. The C&NW South Oshkosh depot was saved from demolition, but its current fate is unknown to me. I have seen post-relocation photographs of it on the internet, but they do not reveal its precise location. Some references state it was moved to downtown Oshkosh, others state it was moved to a park in Oshkosh. If it still survives, I have not found it yet. Most of the yard was torn up in Aug. '16; they did leave the passing siding and team track. The 2013 bascule bridge over the Fox River, built to replace the 1899 swing bridge, is visible in the background to the left.

CREX 1517 and CN 3828
Title:  CREX 1517 and CN 3828
Description:  After setting out and picking up some cars, the motive power of a CN through freight emerges from the north end of the former SOO yard to reassemble its train at the former Monroe St. grade crossing at Neenah, WI on 2 Jun. '19. Train had two locomotives, CREX 1517 and CN 3828. Remnants of the former Adams St. grade crossing can be seen in the foreground. Adams St. was originally Washington St., until at least 1913. I'm curious to learn what Washington did to piss off the "great" City of Neenah. The Winneconne Ave. overpass is visible in the background. The white building partially visible at right appears to still be in use by Neenah Foundry. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St. used to be the yard. I don't know when the current yard (a few blocks to the south) was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard here.

'19. Adams St. was originally Washington St., until at least 1913. I'm curious to learn what Washington did to piss off the "great" City of Neenah. The historic Neenah Cheese & Cold Storage Co. facility, 434 Sherry St., is partially visible in the background at left. It was built in 1902 after the original 1892 building was destroyed by fire and is currently used for storage. The historic Murer House, 432 Sherry St., is partially visible to the right of that. It was built by Felix Murer in 1892 and is currently home to Sherry Town Station. The WC (later SOO) depot stood on the opposite side of Sherry St. from those two buildings; it was built on the north side of Sherry St. on the east side of the tracks in 1891. It replaced the ca. 1871 depot that stood at the west end of Wisconsin Ave. The Sherry St. depot was demolished ca. 1955 when a new depot was built between Main St. and N. Lake St. on the west leg of the wye, about 850 ft. to the northwest. The Main St. overpass is partially visible in the background at left. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St. used to be the yard. Title:  CN 3037, CREX 1519, et al.
Description:  A CN through freight crosses N. Lake St. as it heads southeast via former SOO rails at Neenah, WI on 15 Dec. '18. At left, a very enthusiastic, young railfan (with his parent or guardian) records the train with his cellular telephone. Just out-of-frame to the left, a unit train of bi-level autoracks waits to head northwest. Eggers Industries, 164 N. Lake St., an active rail customer, is partially visible at right. Founded at Neenah, WI, in 1910 as Hardwood Products Co., construction of the facility commenced in Oct. ’10. It was renamed Hardwood Products Corp. as a result of a merger with Mississippi Veneer & Lumber Co. on 20 Apr. ’22 (the latter company was formed by the same businessmen who founded the Neenah company). Eggers Industries acquired Hardwood Products Corp. in 1965 and renamed it Eggers Hardwood Products Corp. Eggers was founded by Fred W. Eggers at Two Rivers, WI in 1884 to make wood baskets used by farmers. They later started making plywood and other wood veneer products. There used to be 3 spurs to service the facility, now there is only 1. Train had three locomotives, CN 3037 and CREX 1519 pulling and CN 2934 mid-train.

A remnant of the former C&NW main line, now relegated to a passing siding, also in use by CN, runs parallel to the right. Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 dominate the background. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished.

CN 2801, CN 8102, CN 2832
Title:  CN 2801, CN 8102, CN 2832
Description:  CN through freight approaches the Hwy. G overpass and parallels Hwy. 41 as it heads northeast via former SOO rails at Snells, WI on 8 Jul. '14. Snells is now little more than a map dot in the Town of Neenah, Winnebago Co. A Post Office was established on 4 May 1876, originally called Snell’s Station, sometimes referred to as Snell’s Crossing. This once small, rural community included a cheese factory, sawmill, school, and stockyard. Snells was located at Mile 183 on the SOO’s Trevor to Somerset line and Mile 173.1 on the C&NW’s Milwaukee to Marinette line. It does not look like any substantial remnants of the community remain, even the station sign, erected after the depot was removed, is gone. The former C&NW rails are in the foreground.

CN 2863 and CN 2802
Title:  CN 2863 and CN 2802
Description:  A CN through freight parallels Union St. and passes the former Sherry St. grade crossing as it heads south past the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 13 Jul. '19. Train had two locomotives, CN 2863 and CN 2802. The historic Neenah Cheese & Cold Storage Co. facility, 434 Sherry St., is partially visible beyond the train to the right. It was built in 1902 after the original 1892 building was destroyed by fire and is currently used for storage. The historic Murer House, 432 Sherry St., is partially visible beyond that. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St. used to be the yard. I don't know when the current yard was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard here. The Main St. overpass can be seen in the background at left.
