Title:  CN 3806 and CN 3116
Description:  A CN through freight parallels Union St. and passes the former Caroline St. grade crossing as it shoves a string of cars into the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 10 Nov. '19. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St. used to be the yard. I don't know when the current yard was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard here.

CN 3806 and CN 3116
Title:  CN 3806 and CN 3116
Description:  A CN through freight parallels W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. and approaches the station sign as it heads northeast via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI on 10 Nov. '19. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016). The former SOO rails run parallel to the right. Modern maps tend to omit the W. from W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. for some reason, it is also absent on the current street sign. Some old maps include the W., some old maps omit the W.

Description:  A CN through freight passes the W. Cecil St. overpass (Timothy Hamblin Bridge) and parallels Harrison St. as it heads southwest past the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 22 Feb. '19. Train had three locomotives, CN 3117 and CREX 1510 pulling and CN 2910 mid-train. The overpass, erected to eliminate the grade crossing, opened to traffic on 20 Nov. '07. The Bike Lane Ends sign is no longer accurate, the paint stripe to mark the bike lane was extended northward when they resurfaced the street last year.

Title:  CN 3809, CN 2856, CN 3118
Description:  A CN through freight slowly approaches N. Lake St. as it pulls out to head northwest via former SOO rails at Neenah, WI, on 18 Apr. '20. I am intrigued by the interesting weathering on the lower front of the lead locomotive. A nice, sunny day often brings a few railfans to this grade crossing. A young, enthusiastic railfan records the action with his cellular telephone. The youngster's hand is going up to wave to the train crew, and the conductor is sliding his window open to return the wave. Herb and Dolly Smith Park lies beyond the fence at left.

CN 3136 and CN 3875
Title:  CN 3136 and CN 3875
Description:  A CN through freight parallels Union St., passes the former Caroline St. grade crossing, approaches the former Adams St. grade crossing as it prepares to halt at the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 9 Aug. '20. Train had three locomotives, CN 3136 and CN 3875 pulling as well as CN 3020 mid-train. The Main St. overpass is in the background to the left. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St., used to be the yard. I don't know when the current, significantly larger yard (extending southwestward from Winneconne Ave.) was built. A 1909 map shows the yard still here, a 1936 map depicts both the old and new yards.

The park bench in the foreground at left was conveniently placed here by the City of Neenah to permit rail fans to watch this bridge (I, obviously, doubt that Neenah was thinking of rail fans when they installed this bench. Once in a while, sarcasm gets the best of me). Looking northwest from Arrowhead Park. The pedestrian bridge connects this park to Herb and Dolly Smith Park.

CN 3149 and CN 3828
Title:  CN 3149 and CN 3828
Description:  A CN container train approaches the Winneconne Ave. overpass as it heads northeast through the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 29 Mar.'20. Train had two locomotives, CN 3149 and CN 3828. This view would have been prevented by the dominating silhouette of the original Neenah Foundry facility, later known as Plant 1, which stood here for over ¾’s of a century. Established in 1872 as Aylward Plow Works (a.k.a. Aylward & Sons) at 120 N. Lake St., they erected a new foundry at 500 W. Winneconne Ave. in 1918 “in a rural area of southwestern Neenah.” The name of Neenah Foundry was adopted in 1922. Expanded numerous times over the years, it became Plant 1 in 1960 when Plant 2 was constructed in the then rural area at the intersection of Byrd Ave. and the aptly named Aylward St. (followed by Plant 3 in 1967). Plant 1 was closed in 1994, the corporate overlords didn’t want to spend any money to update the plant. It stood abandoned for a while and was eventually demolished. The front door was located just out-of-frame to the right.

CN 3151
Title:  CN 3151
Description:  A CN container train crosses the Rat River and bisects the Rat River Wildlife Area as it speeds southeast via former SOO rails at Medina Junction, WI, on 24 Sep. '20. Train had two locomotives, CN 3151 and CN 3848. The locomotives are passing the foundations of the old SOO facilities here. These foundations rest along both sides of the tracks about 700' northwest of the actual junction. If the direction of view in the photograph (http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/Content.aspx?dsNav=N:4294963828-4294963814&dsRecordDetails=R:IM24898) on the Wisconsin Historical Society website is labeled accurately, a coal tower and shed stood on the left side of the tracks and a water tower and another shed to the right. The CN microwave tower in the background stands at the approximate site of where the SOO/WC Medina Station depot once stood on Hwy. M.

CN 3244, CN 3160 and GTW 4619
Title:  CN 3244, CN 3160 and GTW 4619
Description:  A CN through freight parallels Union St. and passes the former Sherry St. grade crossing at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 8 Mar. '20. The historic Murer House, 432 Sherry St., is partially above the second locomotive. It was built by Felix Murer in 1892 and is currently home to Sherry Town Station. The WC (later SOO) depot stood on the opposite side of Sherry St. from that building; it was built on the north side of Sherry St. on the east side of the tracks in 1891. It replaced the ca. 1871 depot that stood at the west end of Wisconsin Ave. The Sherry St. depot was demolished ca. 1955 when a new depot was built between Main St. and N. Lake St. on the west leg of the wye, about 850 ft. to the northwest. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St., used to be the yard. I don't know when the current, significantly larger yard (extending southwestward from Winneconne Ave.) was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard still here.

The historic Neenah Cheese & Cold Storage Co. facility, 434 Sherry St., Neenah, WI, is partially visible beyond the train. It was built in 1902 after the original 1892 building was destroyed by fire and is currently used for storage. The historic Murer House, 432 Sherry St., Neenah, WI, is partially visible beyond that. It was built by Felix Murer in 1892 and is currently home to Sherry Town Station.
