An empty coal train idles away on the CN, former C&NW, siding at Stroebe, WI on 12 Aug. '17. Train was returning from Wisconsin Public Service's Pulliam Power Plant, a.k.a. J. P. Pulliam Generating Station, at Green Bay, WI and had three locomotives, UP 6845 and UP 8482 pulling and UP 6368 pushing. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16 (not Outagamie Co., where Stroebe was erroneously placed on this site)).

UP 5475 and UP 6441
Description:
A through freight crosses N. Lake St. as it heads northwest via CN, former SOO, rails at Neenah, WI, on 27 Sep. '20. Herb & Dolly Smith Park lies beyond the train to the right. Clearwater Paper Corp., historically Kimberly-Clark’s Lakeview mill, 249 N. Lake St., Neenah, WI (physically located in Fox Crossing, Winnebago Co., WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016)), an active rail customer, looms in the background. Eggers Div. of VT Industries, previously Eggers Industries, founded as Hardwood Products Co. in 1910, 164 N. Lake St., an active rail customer, is partially visible to the left.

CSX 3131, BNSF 5791, UP 6473
Description:
A colorful trio of foreign visitors lead a through freight parallel to Harrison St. and approaching Kampo Rd. as it heads southwest via CN, former SOO, rails at Neenah, WI on 14 May '18. Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 are partially visible in the background. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished. A remnant of the former C&NW main line, now relegated to a passing siding, is visible to the right. I am curious to learn where the new turnout (stacked in pieces between the tracks) will be installed.

CN 2639, UP 6742, BNSF 4200, CN 2411
Description:
CN unit train of 3-bay covered hoppers parallels Hwy. 41 and approaches the Hwy. G overpass as it heads southwest via former SOO rails at Snells, WI on 20 May '18. Snells is now little more than a map dot in the Town of Neenah, Winnebago Co. This once small, rural community included a depot, cheese factory, sawmill, school, and stockyard. I do not know if each railroad had their own small depot, or if one small depot served both railroads, I suspect it was the latter. It does not look like any substantial remnants of the community remain, even the station sign, erected after the depot was removed, is gone (it is not a station on the CN system map). The unit train of tank cars at right rests upon the former C&NW main line. Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 are partially visible in the background at left. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 anf eventually demolished.

Snells is now little more than a map dot in the Town of Neenah, Winnebago Co. A Post Office was established on 4 May 1876, originally called Snell’s Station, sometimes referred to as Snell’s Crossing. This once small, rural community included a depot, cheese factory, sawmill, school, and stockyard. It does not look like any substantial remnants of the community remain, even the station sign, erected after the depot was removed, is gone (it is not a station on the CN system map). UP 6771
Description:
A coal train clears Stroebe Rd. as it heads northeast via CN, former C&NW, rails at Stroebe, WI on 16 Jul. '17. The coal was destined for Wisconsin Public Service's Pulliam Power Plant, a.k.a. J. P. UP 6804, UP 7246, UP 6771
Description:
An empty coal train approaches E. Snell Rd. as it heads southwest via CN, former SOO, rails at Oshkosh, WI on 22 Jul. '17. Train had 3 locomotives, UP 6804, UP 7246, UP 6771. Train was likely returning from Wisconsin Public Service's Pulliam Power Plant, a.k.a. J. P. Pulliam Generating Station, at Green Bay, WI. I captured the same trio of locomotives hauling a northbound loaded coal train at Stroebe, WI on 16 Jul. I was surprised to notice that all three locomotives must have been turned on a wye at some point, all three were cab forward heading north and now they are all cab forward heading south. I was standing at what used to be the former C&NW grade crossing. The border between the City of Oshkosh and the Town of Oshkosh is quite convoluted in this area. The land to the left of the active rails in front of me and the land on both sides of the active rails behind me is the Town of Oshkosh, but the land to the right of the active rails in front of me is the City of Oshkosh. Go about 400' behind me and the land on both sides of the active rails is the City of Oshkosh.

Title:
UP 6779 and BNSF 7992
Description:
A through freight parallels Ehlers Rd. and approaches Towmen Rd. as it heads northeast via CN, former SOO, rails at Shawano Junction, Fox Crossing, Winnebago Co., WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016) on 27 Mar. '21. The train is transitioning to the former C&NW rails. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. To the right, a shiny, new, modern signal relay case stands where an awesome, old one once stood. To the right of that you can see some brand new signals. The installation commenced ca. 25 Apr. '20 and was completed ca. 3 Jul. '20. The new signals were activated and the old signals removed between 10 and 22 Aug. '21. The telephone pole to the left of center and the one to the left of the lead locomotive stand next to an abandoned portion of the C&NW right-of-way. It sure was nice of the railroad to complete some much-needed brush clearing along the tracks here so that train nuts like me can capture better views of their trains.

Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16 (not Outagamie Co., where Stroebe was erroneously placed on this site)). The train rests amid the ongoing reconstruction of the Hwy. 41/Hwy. 441 (a.k.a. the Tri-County Expressway)/Hwy. 10 interchange (a.k.a. the Polish Connection). The overpass in the background is the connection from westbound Hwy. 10/Hwy. 441 (a.k.a. the Tri-County Expressway) to northbound Hwy. 41. The columns partially visible at left support the new, second bridge to carry eastbound traffic over Little Lake Butte des Morts. The columns partially visible at right support the original Roland Kampo Bridge (being extensively rebuilt) which will now only carry westbound traffic over Little Lake Butte des Morts. The interchange opened to traffic on 30 Nov. '75. When Hwy. 10 was reconstructed and relocated ca. '97, this interchange was not simultaneously reconstructed to form a full interchange, but the ongoing, extensive expansion and reconstruction will make it a full interchange as well as increase traffic capacity.

UP 3834, UP 7106, et. al
Description:
UP unit train of 2-bay covered hoppers speeds past the site of the former C&NW depot as it speeds southeast at Grand Marsh, WI on 16 Jul. '15. Train had three locomotives, UP 3834, UP 7106, and UP xx08. The depot was built in 1911, when this section of the line was laid. Supposedly the depot still exists, having been moved to a new site in town and converted into a home.
