A CN local passes the Main St. overpass, passes Arrowhead Park, and traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 17 Nov. '19. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are partially visible at right. The stack of railroad ties rests atop the remnants of the foundation. The masonry depot was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. |

'19. Local was headed for Appleton, Little Chute, and Kaukauna and is transitioning from the former SOO rails to the former C&NW rails. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. |

Container train had two locomotives, CN 2263 and CN 5788. Local was preparing to head for Appleton, Little Chute, and Kaukauna with 26 cars and had two locomotives, CN 9530 and CN 9402. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St. used to be the yard. I don't know when the current yard was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard here. The Winneconne Ave. overpass can be seen in the background at right. |

A CN local parallels Ehlers Rd. and approaches Towmen Rd. as it heads northeast via former SOO rails at Shawano Junction, Fox Crossing, Winnebago Co., WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016) on 3 Apr. '21. The local, headed for Appleton, Little Chute and Kaukauna, is transitioning to the former C&NW rails. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. To the right stand some brand new signals. The installation commenced ca. 25 Apr. '20 and was completed ca. 3 Jul. '20. The new signals were activated and the old signals removed between 10 and 22 Aug. '21. It sure was nice of the railroad to complete some much-needed brush clearing along the tracks here so that train nuts like me can capture better views of their trains. |
