Description:
A CN through freight rests on former SOO rails at the W. Bell St. overpass at Neenah, WI, on 20 Feb. '21. If I had known which unit this was, I would have waited in the hope of getting a better shot of it. A remnant of the former C&NW main line, now relegated to a passing siding, lies in the foreground.

CN 3236
Description:
A CN container train traverses the S-curve at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 27 Jun. '20. Train had two locomotives, CN 3850 pulling as well as CN 3236 mid-train. The historic Neenah Stove Works, currently occupied by Hafemeister Machine Corp., 635 Main St., and International Children's Fund, 619 Main St., is partially visible in the background to the left. The oldest part of the facility dates to 1857, when the Moore & Wells foundry was established. Arrowhead Park, a closed paper sludge landfill, is partially visible to the right. Before the landfill was opened in the '50s, the south shore of Little Lake Butte des Morts came right up to the north leg of the wye. Eggers Div. of VT Industries, previously Eggers Industries, founded as Hardwood Products Co. in 1910, 164 N. Lake St., an active rail customer, stands near the center of the background.

CN 3242 and CN 3923
Description:
A CN train passes the former C&NW depot as it heads northeast at Green Bay, WI, on 28 Oct. '22. The depot, designed by Charles Sumner Frost, was built in the Italian Renaissance Revival style and completed in 1899. Passenger train service ceased in 1971 but it was still used by the railroad for years. From 1996 until 2021, it was home to Titletown Brewing Co. It looks like the current occupant is The Depot. The depot is also a stop on the Green Bay Packers' Heritage Trail.

CN 3249
Description:
A CN train heads south past the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 18 Feb. '24. Train had two locomotives, CN 3249 pulling and CN 3970 mid-train. In the background, we can see evidence of continued expansion of Galloway Co., 601 S. Commercial St. (an active rail customer). This view would have been prevented by the original Neenah Foundry facility, later known as Plant 1, which stood here for over ¾’s of a century. Established in 1872 as Aylward Plow Works (a.k.a. Aylward & Sons) at 120 N. Lake St., they erected a new foundry at 500 W. Winneconne Ave. in 1918 “in a rural area of southwestern Neenah.” The name of Neenah Foundry was adopted in 1922. Expanded numerous times over the years, it became Plant 1 in 1960 when Plant 2 was constructed in the then rural area at the intersection of Byrd Ave. and the aptly named Aylward St. (followed by Plant 3 in 1967). Plant 1 was closed in 1994. It stood abandoned for a while and was eventually demolished.

CN 2921, CN 3260, CN 2843, WC 1552
Description:
A CN through freight leans into the west leg of the wye as it heads northwest via former SOO rails at Neenah, WI on 9 May '20. On the far side of the train lies Arrowhead Park, a closed paper sludge landfill. Before the landfill was opened in the '50s, the south shore of Little Lake Butte des Morts came right up to the north leg of the wye, which bisects the scene. Toward the right, a large quantity of fill is being added to the eastern half of the park, in preparation of future improvements. The Fox Valley Energy Center (formerly Minergy Fox Valley Glass Aggregate Plant) dominated the eastern half of the landfill/park from its opening in Jan. '98 until demolition was completed in the spring of '16. The former C&NW bridge across Little Lake Butte des Morts, now part of the Friendship Trail (often erroneously referred to as the Trestle Trail), can be seen in the background. The Roland Kampo Bridge, a.k.a. the Polish Connection, can be seen beyond that.

A CN through freight approaches Wisconsin Rd. (formerly Main St.)/Hwy. 96 as it heads southeast via former SOO rails at Dale, WI, on 20 Feb. '21. Historically Main St. (as listed on CN's signal relay case), some of the street signs have been changed to Wisconsin Rd. (it shows up as Wisconsin Ave. on the satellite map). Hwy. 96 used to be Hwy. 10, until the latter's expansion and relocation ca. '97. Train had three locomotives, CN 2920 and CN 3260 pulling as well as CN 3099 mid-train.

CN 3265 and CN 2834
Description:
A CN unit train of tank cars traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 5 Sep. '20. It looks like some new, concrete railroad ties will be installed on the main line soon. I've never seen these around here before. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot can be seen to the left. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. On the far side of the train lies Arrowhead Park, a closed paper sludge landfill. Before the landfill was opened in the '50s, the south shore of Little Lake Butte des Morts came right up to the north leg of the wye (partially visible to the right).
