Album Info:Most of the photographs in this album were captured in Northeast Wisconsin in the spring of 2017, so they are mostly CN operating on former C&NW, GB&W, MILW, and SOO rails. Once in a while I try to catch ELS and WSOR on former MILW rails too.

Description:  CN through freight traverses the S-curve at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 26 Mar. '17. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are at left. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. Eggers Industries, 164 N. Lake St., Neenah, WI, is visible in the background.

Description:  CN container train parallels Hwy. 41 and approaches the Hwy. G overpass as it heads northeast via a remnant of the former C&NW main line at Snells, WI on 15 Apr. '17. Snells is now little more than a map dot in the Town of Neenah, Winnebago Co. A Post Office was established 4 May 1876, originally called Snell’s Station, sometimes referred to as Snell’s Crossing. This small, rural community once included a depot, cheese factory, sawmill, school, and stockyard. It does not look like any real remnants of the original community remain. Even the station sign, erected after the depot was removed, is gone. CN 174812 MoW hi-rail is parked on the former SOO main line.

Description:  CN local approaches the former S. Pierce Ave./W. 8th St. grade crossing as it heads northeast via former C&NW rails at Appleton, WI on 22 Apr. '17. Train was headed for Little Chute and Kaukauna. The train would have been hidden behind the historic Pierce Manufacturing plant that occupied this city block from 1917 until it was razed in 2011. This plot of land has been divided into lots for Habitat for Humanity and some homes have sprung up to partially obscure the view.

Train was returning from Shawano. I’m not positive about the road number, the inane vandalism has partially obscured some of the numerals.

'17. Looking east from Thilmany Rd. It should be labeled Stribley Rd., but it appears that the remnants of Stribley Rd. and Thilmany Rd. will now just be referred to as the latter. Portions of both roads were altered or removed during the restoration of the original Thilmany mill (behind me) and the creation of its new parking lot.

The SlotMachine® work platform, GREX 60540, consists of several gondolas permanently connected with articulated couplings. There are no bulkheads between the cars, so an excavator can traverse the entire length of the train’s floor to load or unload material. This small yard used to serve as an interchange for the SOO and Chicago & North Western (C&NW). Later it served as an intermodal yard for the WC.

Description:  CN through freight pauses next to the remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot on the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 14 May '17. The rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties rest atop the remnants of the foundation. The masonry depot was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened.
