CN 4700
Title:  CN 4700
Description:  CN local slows to halt at Milepost 318 on former SOO rails to conduct a crew change at Shawano, WI on 10 Sep. '15. Herzog Multi-Purpose Machine MPM XIII, powered by HZGX 179, is partially visible behind the local. WC 21022, WC 21137, CNA 404822, and WC 21162 are spotted at the small Seneca Foods Corp. facility (the blue metal building). The address on the door is 200 N. Green Bay Ave., Gillett, WI, which seems to imply that the canning plant in Gillett trucks their products about 25 miles to Shawano to be shipped by rail. Gillett was served by C&NW from 1884 to 1981. I was standing on the former C&NW right-of-way, now the Mountain-Bay State Trail. The tower to protect the junction stood just out of frame to the left, until it was torn down circa 1995, and remnants of the supports for the interlocking mechanisms are visible in the foreground.

CN 4700
Title:  CN 4700
Description:  CN local approaches the junction with the former C&NW right-of-way, now the Mountain-Bay State Trail, while servicing a local industry via former SOO rails at Shawano, WI on 10 Sep. '15. The interlocking tower that guarded the junction stood just out of frame to the right, south of SOO tracks and east of C&NW tracks, until it was torn down circa 1995. There are remnants of a foundation in the clump of trees this side of the locomotive, but I do not recall what used to be there.

CN 4700 and GTW 6420
Title:  CN 4700 and GTW 6420
Description:  CN local pauses to throw the turnout to take the north leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 10 Apr. '16. They will then pull past the turnout for the east leg of the wye, then back into the yard. The remnants of the ca. '60s SOO depot's foundation is partially visible on the right, some rail sections supported by concrete blocks rest atop the foundation. It was constructed of masonry and replaced the wooden depot that used to stand at Sherry St., about 850 feet to the southeast. The silo in the background is Eggers Industries, 164 N. Lake St., Neenah, WI, a periodic rail customer.

Title:  CN 4700 and GTW 6420
Description:  CN local pauses on the north leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 10 Apr. '16. They will then pull past the turnout for the east leg of the wye, then back into the yard. The silo is the last significant remnant of the defunct Fox Valley Energy Center (formerly Minergy Fox Valley Glass Aggregate Plant). Opened in Jan. '98, it has stood idle since 15 Jun. '13. Demolition is nearly complete, after several delays. The silo fell sometime between 17 and 22 Apr. '16, a large pile of broken concrete is about all that remains and will soon be removed and recycled. The industry background left is Clearwater Paper Corp., 249 N. Lake St., Neenah, WI (physically located in Town of Menasha), a frequent rail customer. The tracks in the foreground are the east leg of the wye.

GTW 5850 and CN 4700
Title:  GTW 5850 and CN 4700
Description:  CN local momentarily fouls Thilmany Rd. while servicing the Expera Specialty Solutions (originally Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co.) paper mill on the banks of the Fox River via former C&NW rails at Kaukauna, WI on 27 Jan. '17. It should be labeled Stribley Rd., but it appears that the remnants of Stribley Rd. and Thilmany Rd. will now just be referred to as the latter. Portions of both roads were altered or removed during the restoration of the original Thilmany mill (out of frame to the right) and the creation of its new parking lot.

CN 9424 and CN 4700
Title:  CN 9424 and CN 4700
Description:  CN local passes White City Park and approaches Lawe St./Hwy. 55 as it ascends the grade back up to the former C&NW main line at Kaukauna, WI on 31 Jan. '17. The local has just finished servicing Expera Specialty Solutions, originally Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co., down on the bank of the Fox River. I wanted to wait until the trailing unit cleared the tree line, but a car was approaching from the right so it was this or nothing.

CN 4700 and CN 9424
Title:  CN 4700 and CN 9424
Description:  CN local emerges from behind All About Packaging, Inc., Warehouse #2, and approaches S. Perkins St. as it heads northwest via former C&NW rails at Appleton, WI on 16 Feb. '17. Train was moving unusually slow and preparing to set out a string of cars in the yard at Appleton Junction. There is a spur along the south side of the building, the wheel stops are behind the pile of snow, but the turnout for the spur was removed years ago. The oldest part of the building was completed in Mar. '60, the new facility for the Fox Valley Sheltered Workshop. Inc. (started in '55 to create employment opportunities for the disabled). It became Valley Packaging Industries Inc. ca. mid- or late-'80s. After they moved to a new facility, this one has been home to Valley Planing Mill, Inc., followed by Perfect Patterns, Inc. It is currently a warehouse for All About Packaging, Inc., whose main facility is a couple of blocks away on W. Everett St. Founded at Appleton, WI in '96, they specialize in thermoformed packaging.

Title:  CN 9424 and CN 4700
Description:  CN local approaches Depot St. as it heads southwest via former C&NW rails at Little Chute, WI on 18 Feb. '17. The depot stood just out of frame to the left. Station signs were erected after the depot was removed but they were removed between 22 and 29 Mar. '14 when Cross Country Clearing, LLC removed some of the old telephone poles along the right-of-way. I thought they would put the station signs up again, but they have not.
