CN 8101, CN 2869, and IC 9626 |
Description: |
CN through freight traverses the west leg of the wye as it backs into the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 6 Jun. '15. Little Lake Butte des Morts and the former C&NW bridge, now the Friendship Trail (often referred to as the Trestle Trail), are visible in the background. The defunct and partially demolished Fox Valley Energy Center (formerly Minergy Fox Valley Glass Aggregate Plant) is on the right. Opened in Jan. '98, it has stood idle since 15 Jun. '13. The demolition has been on hold for a several weeks due to a contract dispute between the owner and the demolition contractor. |

Description: |
CN unit train of tank cars passes the Main St. over pass as it traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 2 Jul. '17. The east leg of the wye is partially visible beyond the train. The white building at left is Progressive Paper Storage, Inc. (formerly Kimberly-Clark Warehouse), 135 Millview Dr. It does not receive rail service, but it looks like there may have been a spur on the northwest side of the building in the past. Train had three locomotives, CN 3019 and CN 2821 pulling as well as CN 8101 pushing. |

Description: |
A CN through freight passes the Main St. overpass and Arrowhead Park while taking the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 24 Jun. '18. Train had two locomotives, CN 8101 and BNSF 4290. The tank cars at left are parked on the north leg of the wye. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are partially visible to the right of the locomotives. The rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties rest atop the remnants of the foundation. The masonry depot was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. |

Description: |
A CN train passes the Winneconne Ave. overpass as it heads north past the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 11 Mar. '23. The train was preparing to set out and pick up cars at the yard. The overpass was erected ca. 1988 in order to eliminate the busiest grade crossing in the area. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St., used to be the yard, built by WC in 1882. I don't know when the current, significantly larger yard (extending southwestward from Winneconne Ave.) was built. A 1909 map shows the yard still here, a 1936 map depicts both the old and new yards. |

Description: |
A CN train parallels Union St. and approaches the former Sherry St. grade crossing as it heads north past the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 11 Mar. ‘23. The train was preparing to set out and pick up cars at the yard. The historic Neenah Cheese & Cold Storage Co. facility, 434 Sherry St., is partially visible beyond the train. It was built in 1902 after the original 1892 building was destroyed by fire and is currently used for storage. The historic Murer House, 432 Sherry St., is partially visible beyond that. It was built by Felix Murer in 1892 and is currently home to Sherry Town Station. The WC (later SOO) depot stood on the opposite side of Sherry St. from those two buildings; it was built on the north side of Sherry St. on the east side of the tracks in 1891. It replaced the ca. 1871 depot that stood at the west end of Wisconsin Ave. The Sherry St. depot was demolished ca. 1955 when a new depot was built between Main St. and N. Lake St. on the west leg of the wye, about 850 ft. to the northwest. |
