A CN container train crosses over from the former SOO rails to the former C&NW rails as it heads southwest at Neenah, WI on 30 Mar. '18. Train had two locomotives, CN 3034 and CN 3002. Components for a new turnout rest at left. Given that the sun light was neutral, I was hoping to photograph a train approaching Kampo Rd. from the northeast on the main line, for a change. That angle wouldn't be much good on a sunny afternoon, when I am usually over that way. I positioned myself here when I noticed a train approaching, only to be foiled once again by the crafty crew members of the CN. |

A CN local passes the station sign and momentarily fouls State St. while servicing the east side of the Appleton Coated, LLC paper mill at Combined Locks, WI on 31 Mar. '18. Founded in 1889 (some references state 1892) as the Combined Locks Paper Co., it became Combined Paper Mills, Inc. in ‘46 after it purchased a paper mill in PA. Acquired by the National Cash Register Co. in ‘69, it was merged with Appleton Coated Paper Co. in ‘71 to form Appleton Papers, Inc. Commonly known as Appleton Papers Locks Mill, it has been controlled by several different domestic and foreign owners over the years. It was separated from Appleton Papers in ‘00 and became Appleton Coated, LLC. |
