CN 3964, et al.
Title:  CN 3964, et al.
Description:  A CN train approaches Kampo Rd. as it heads southwest via former SOO rails at Neenah, WI, on 6 Feb. '25. Train had three locomotives, CN 3964 and CN 3851 pulling as well as CN 2820 mid-train. A remnant of the former C&NW main line, now relegated to a passing siding, runs parallel to the right. Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 dominate the background. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished.

HLCX 3841
Title:  HLCX 3841
Description:  A FV&LS (or FOXY) train switches Shawano Specialty Papers (div. of Little Rapids Corp.) via former C&NW rails at West Shawano, WI, on 21 Feb. '25. Founded as the Wolf River Paper & Fiber Co. on 7 Feb. 1894, the name was changed to Shawano Paper Mills ca. Nov. ‘49. The facility was leased to Little Rapids Pulp Co. (later Little Rapids Corp.) in Feb. ’50, they purchased the facility on 25 Jun. ’55. The name changed to Little Rapids Corp.-Shawano Mill in ‘93, but it was still commonly referred to as Shawano Paper Mill. The area around the mill, which includes some former company houses, used to be referred to as West Shawano. The paper mill stands along an approximately 2-mile scrap of the former C&NW mainline which once ran 83 miles from Green Bay to Wausau (this is the only active remnant outside of those two cities). That former main line is now the Mountain-Bay State Trail. It is an awesome bicycle ride, but I (obviously) would prefer to see trains running on it.

AMTK 345, et al.
Title:  AMTK 345, et al.
Description:  AMTK Train 8, ‘Empire Builder,’ crosses N. Spring St. as it arrives at the CP, former MILW, depot (out-of-frame to the left) at Columbus, WI, as it heads southeast on 27 Feb. '25. Train had two locomotives, AMTK 345 and AMTK 305. Consist included AMTK 61047, AMTK 39031, AMTK 32086, AMTK 32069, AMTK 38067, AMTK 34114, AMTK 38043, AMTK 34031, AMTK 31045, AMTK 32050. Designed in the Italianate style, it was constructed of lumber with brick veneer by the M&StP in 1871. When the current depot was built in 1906, this became the freight house. I don't know when the railroad stopped using it, but it obviously became part of the Caldwell Lumber Co. quite a while ago. The company, originally known as Mair and Caldwell, started when R. J. Caldwell and William Mair purchased the Brittingham and Hixon Lumber Co. The depot is currently used by Vita Plus.

GTW 4901
Title:  GTW 4901
Description:  A CN train parallels W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. and crosses an apparently unnamed stream as it heads northeast via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI, on 28 Feb. '25. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, Winnebago Co., WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016 (not Outagamie Co., where Stroebe was erroneously placed on this site)). The approaches of the Roland Kampo Bridge (a.k.a. the Polish Connection) at the Hwy. 41/Hwy. 10/Hwy. 441 (a.k.a. Tri-County Expressway) interchange loom in the background. Modern maps tend to omit the W. from W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. for some reason, it is also absent on the current street sign. Some old maps include the W., some old maps omit the W.
