An interesting trio of out-of-town visitors lead a through freight across Towmen Rd. via CN rails as it transitions from former SOO rails (in the foreground) to former C&NW rails at Shawano Junction, WI on 24 Feb. '18. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. Train had three locomotives, NS 8945, NS 1065, NS 2600.

Description:
Through freight, CN with leased power I presume, parallels W. Butte Des Morts Beach Rd. as it heads southwest via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI, in Town of Menasha, on 31 May '14. Train was coming from Green Bay, not sure where it originated. It was headed for Neenah, not sure of its destination.

UP 3834, UP 7106, et. al
Description:
UP unit train of 2-bay covered hoppers speeds past the site of the former C&NW depot as it speeds southeast at Grand Marsh, WI on 16 Jul. '15. Train had three locomotives, UP 3834, UP 7106, and UP xx08. The depot was built in 1911, when this section of the line was laid. Supposedly the depot still exists, having been moved to a new site in town and converted into a home.

UP 3861 and CN 5454
Description:
A CN through freight passes Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 as heads southwest via C&NW rails at the south end of the yard at Neenah, WI on 24 Apr. '18. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished. Train had two locomotives, UP 3861 and CN 5454. The former SOO rails can be seen along Harrison St.

UP 4601, et al.
Description:
A long UP container train hauling ass through TX and NM greeted me on my arrival at Ft. Bliss, TX on 22 Feb. ’09 (I considered that a good omen). I and my WIARNG unit had just arrived there in preparation for our deployment in support of OIF when our convoy of buses and NTVs had to stop at the intersection of Hwy. 54 and McGregor Range Rd. (in Otero Co., NM, 6 miles northeast of the TX border) for a train heading northeast via former SP rails along the border of Ft. Bliss. I and my camera are partially visible in the driver's rear view mirror. I wasn’t really in a good position to try to get a better shot.

Train had five locomotives, UP 4596, UP 8501, UP 4693, CEFX 6007 (former SOO 6007), GECX 2036. I don’t encounter former SOO equipment this close to former SOO rails often enough. Neenah's Southpark Industrial Center (industrial park is too plebeian for oft ostentatious Neenah) is visible in the background, including Faith Technologies, Inc., 585 Enterprise Dr., (a former Plexus Corp. facility).
