A CN container train parallels Union St. and approaches the former Caroline St. grade crossing as it passes a halted through freight at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 9 Aug. '20. Container train had two locomotives, CN 2726 pulling and CN 3102 mid-train. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St., used to be the yard. I don't know when the current, significantly larger yard (extending southwestward from Winneconne Ave.) was built. A 1909 map shows the yard still here, a 1936 map depicts both the old and new yards. |

A CN container train passes Kampo Rd. as it heads southwest via a remnant of the former C&NW main line, now relegated to a passing siding, at Neenah, WI, on 24 Oct. '20. Train had two locomotives, IC 2726 pulling as well as CN 2689 pushing. The former SOO rails, also in use by CN, run parallel along the other side of the train. The building in the background to the left was home to Plexus' Neenah Design Center, 55 Jewelers Park Dr., Neenah, WI. Erected in 1987 and expanded in 2000, it has stood vacant since 2017, when they decided they needed another new office building in downtown Neenah for some stupid reason. At least one tenant has occupied part of the building recently. |
