The station sign says Fremont and it is listed as such on CN’s system map, but the nearest point of the Fremont city limits is over 2 miles to the southwest, as the crow flies. This location is labeled Fremont Sidings on some maps and, technically, there are two sidings here. The passing siding is still used, but the industrial siding that used to serve at least three industries has not been used for years. |

CN unit train of empty centerbeam flatcars passes the old Dale feed mill and approaches Main St./Hwy. 96 as it heads northwest via former SOO rails on a foggy 21 Jan. '17. The Dale feed mill was built between 1889 and 1908, when it was Northern Grain Co. By ’10 it was the Western Elevator Co., Western Grain Co. in some references. It was the Steffen’s Elevator Co. from ca. ’21 until at least ’68, it was purchased by John H. Steffens and later run by his sons. It was Dale Feed Service from ca. ’73 until at least ’81. It has been home to Earth Sense Energy Systems, Inc., since ’96. Train was slowing to halt at Anton Siding. |
