Title:  CN 3041, UP 5421, et al.
Description:  A CN unit train of tank cars passes Arrowhead Park and approaches the Main St. overpass as it traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 23 Dec. '18. Train had three locomotives, CN 3041 and UP 5421 pulling as well as CN 3084 pushing. The historic Neenah Stove Works, currently occupied by Hafemeister Machine Corp., 635 Main St., and International Children's Fund, 619 Main St., is partially visible in the background. The oldest part of the facility dates to 1857, when the Moore & Wells foundry was established. The north leg of the wye is also visible.

Description:  A CN unit train of tank cars approaches the Main St. overpass as it traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 23 Dec. '18. Train had three locomotives, CN 3041 and UP 5421 pulling as well as CN 3084 pushing. The north leg of the wye can be seen in the foreground. The front facade of the remaining portion of the Neenah Cheese & Cold Storage Co. facility, 434 Sherry St., is visible under the overpass, beyond the bridge pier. It was built in 1902 after the original building, constructed by Nicholas Simon in 1892, was destroyed in a fire. The WC (later SOO) depot stood on this side of that facility; it was built on the north side of Sherry St. on the east side of the tracks in 1891. It replaced the ca. 1871 depot that stood at the west end of Wisconsin Ave. The Sherry St. depot was demolished ca. 1955 when a new depot was built between Main St. and N. Lake St. on the west leg of the wye (just out-of-frame to the right). The Winneconne Ave. overpass can be seen in the background.

CN 3041, et al.
Title:  CN 3041, et al.
Description:  A CN through freight, with a string of flatcars loaded with MoW equipment, passes the Main St. overpass and leans into the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 11 May '19. Train was slowing in order to prepare to set out and pick up cars and had two locomotives, CN 3041 and EMDX 1606. The north leg of the wye is partially visible at left. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot can be seen near the center of the photograph. The rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties rest atop the remnants of the foundation. The masonry depot was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. The Edward Smith Octagon House, 347 Smith St., is partially visible under the overpass at right. The house was erected between 1851 and 1854. Edward Smith, who operated a flour mill and had an early interest in the Neenah Paper Co., purchased the home in 1855. It has been owned by the Neenah Historical Society since 1993.

CN 3041 and EMDX 1606
Title:  CN 3041 and EMDX 1606
Description:  A CN through freight, with a string of flatcars loaded with MoW equipment, passes the station sign as it heads northeast via former SOO rails at Shawano Junction, Fox Crossing (originally Town of Menasha until 14 Apr. '16), Winnebago Co., WI on 11 May '19. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. The locomotives are about to pass that turnout and transition to the former C&NW rails to head for Green Bay, WI. It sure was nice of the railroad to complete some much-needed brush clearing along the tracks here so that train nuts like me can capture better views of their trains. Unfortunately, it also reveals the garbage dumped here illegally by lazy, stupid, inconsiderate 21st Century Americans, like the stack of tires at left or the TVs near the signal relay case. The telephone pole in the background at left stands along the former C&NW right-of-way.

Title:  CN 3041 and EMDX 1606
Description:  A CN through freight, with a string of flatcars loaded with MoW equipment, parallels W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. and approaches Stroebe Rd. as it heads northeast via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI on 11 May '19. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16). The former SOO rails are in the foreground.

CN 3106 and CN 3041
Title:  CN 3106 and CN 3041
Description:  A CN through freight traverses the west leg of the wye as it heads northwest via former SOO rails at Neenah, WI, on 23 May '20. On the far side of the train lies Arrowhead Park, a closed paper sludge landfill. Before the landfill was opened in the '50s, the south shore of Little Lake Butte des Morts came right up to the north leg of the wye, which bisects the scene. The foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot is partially visible to the right. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened.

In the background, a large quantity of fill is being added to the eastern half of the park, in preparation of future improvements. The Fox Valley Energy Center (formerly Minergy Fox Valley Glass Aggregate Plant) dominated the eastern half of the landfill/park from its opening in Jan. '98 until demolition was completed in the spring of '16. The Main St. overpass is to the right.

Title:  CN 3106 and CN 3041
Description:  A CN through freight passes the Main St. overpass and traverses the west leg of the wye as it prepares to set out and pick up cars at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 23 May '20. The white building partially visible at left is, or was, Progressive Paper Storage, Inc. (formerly Kimberly-Clark Warehouse (K-C Warehouse)), 135 Millview Dr. It does not receive rail service, but it looks like there may have been a spur on the northwest side of the building in the past. First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Church St., can be seen above the cab of the lead locomotive. The clock tower of the once impressive 1888 city hall building, intersection of S. Commercial St. and W. Doty St., looks like a church steeple from this perspective, but it is a block east of the church.
