CN 2321 and GECX 7336 |
Description: |
A CN through freight parallels Union St. and passes the former Monroe St. grade crossing as it heads north at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 27 Jul. '18. Train had two locomotives, CN 2321 and GECX 7336. I believe the building at right is used by Neenah Foundry, but I'm not positive. The Winneconne Ave./Hwy. 114 overpass is partially visible at right. |

CN 2265 and CN 2321 |
Description: |
A CN unit train of tank cars approaches N. Lake St. as it heads southeast via former SOO rails at Neenah, WI on 17 Nov. '19. Train had four locomotives, CN 2265 and CN 2321 pulling as well as CN 2583 and CN 8883 pushing. Eggers Div. of VT Industries, 164 N. Lake St., an active rail customer, is partially visible at left. Founded at Neenah, WI, in 1910 as Hardwood Products Co., construction of the facility commenced in Oct. ’10. It was renamed Hardwood Products Corp. as a result of a merger with Mississippi Veneer & Lumber Co. on 20 Apr. ’22 (the latter company was formed by the same businessmen who founded the Neenah company). Eggers Industries acquired Hardwood Products Corp. in 1965 and renamed it Eggers Hardwood Products Corp. Eggers was founded by Fred W. Eggers at Two Rivers, WI in 1884 to make wood baskets used by farmers. They later started making plywood and other wood veneer products. The name was changed to simply Eggers Industries at some point. It was acquired by Holstein, IA, based VT Industries, Inc., on 2 Oct. ’18. There used to be 3 spurs to service the facility, now there is only 1. |

CN 2321 and CN 5341 |
Description: |
A CN unit train of auto racks parallels Union St. and passes the former Monroe St. grade crossing as it heads north past the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 14 Feb. '21. To the left, CN 5341 sorts cars at the north end of the yard. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St., used to be the yard. I don't know when the current, significantly larger yard (extending southwestward from Winneconne Ave.) was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard still here. The building partially visible to the right, 716 Harrison St. (I believe the historic address is 520 Union St.), still used by Neenah Foundry, I believe, was recently spruced up with a fresh coat of paint and some new doors last year. There was no overhead door on this end until a month or two ago. The Winneconne Ave. overpass stands beyond that. It was erected ca. 1988 in order to eliminate the busiest grade crossing in the area. |
