UP 2212 and UP 722
Description:
UP 2212 and UP 722 assemble their train of 89-foot flatcars, 89-foot bi-level autoracks, and DODX heavy-duty flatcars, loaded with military vehicles for TF 632, at the railroad yard at Ft. McCoy, WI on 22 Jun. ’00. This yard used to be jointly served by MILW and C&NW, currently just UP. TF 632, a battalion-size task force consisting primarily of units from 1-632D AR and 2-127TH IN, WIARNG, had rail loaded its equipment for deployment to Gowen Field, ID, for AT ’00.

Description:
UP 2212 and UP 722 pull a train of 89-foot flatcars, 89-foot bi-level autoracks, and DODX heavy-duty flatcars, loaded with military vehicles for TF 632, underneath I-94 as they head east via former C&NW rails parallel to Foley Rd. at Tomah, WI in the early evening hours of 22 Jun. ’00. I know the quality of this photo is poor, but I waited for 4 days to catch this trainload of my unit’s equipment leaving Ft. McCoy, unfortunately this is the best shot I got. TF 632, a battalion-size task force consisting primarily of units from 1-632D AR and 2-127TH IN, WIARNG, had rail loaded its equipment for deployment to Gowen Field, ID, for AT ’00.

Description:
A long UP container train hauling ass through TX and NM greeted me on my arrival at Ft. Bliss, TX on 22 Feb. ’09 (I considered that a good omen). I and my WIARNG unit had just arrived there in preparation for our deployment in support of OIF when our convoy of buses and NTVs had to stop at the intersection of Hwy. 54 and McGregor Range Rd. (in Otero Co., NM, 6 miles northeast of the TX border) for a train heading northeast via former SP rails along the border of Ft. Bliss. I and my camera are partially visible in the driver's rear view mirror. I wasn’t really in a good position to try to get a better shot.

I had a chance to snap a quick photograph of the “Welcome to Texas” and “Welcome to New Mexico” signs during one of my trips from the middle-of-nowhere Fort Bliss to the main cantonment area of the post on 28 Feb. '09. This spot along Hwy. 54 on the TX/NM border is Newman, Otero Co., NM. There just happened to be a long, high-speed container train passing by at the time. Train was headed southwest toward El Paso and had two locomotives, UP 1983 (WP heritage unit) and UP 8520.
