Album Info:Marion Plywood Corp. and its co-located subsidiary, Great Lakes Veneer, Inc., at 222 S. Parkview Ave. (originally Railroad Ave.) straddles the former C&NW ROW at Marion, WI. It was founded as Rogers & Johnson Co. in 1894 to manufacture excelsior and round veneer cheese boxes. Their original plant was located about 1,000 ft. to the southwest at the intersection of Vine St., Elm St., and North Ave. (now Maes St., SE 2nd St., and Rodgers St.) and received rail service via C&NW from day one. Their primary focus shifted to plywood and they changed the name to Marion Plywood Corp. in 1950. They eventually moved to this newer and larger mill along the C&NW tracks at some point. They received direct rail service until 1982, when the rail line was abandoned. A large addition was built over and beyond the original ROW after the rails were pulled. The facility still receives rail service, albeit indirectly, from CN via a combination of former C&NW and GB&W rails at New London, WI. GLVX pulpwood cars are spotted on the team track, former GB&W rails, on the northwest side of New London. The logs are trans-loaded to trucks for the 24-mile trip to Marion.

Title:  GLVX 26 and GLVX 27, derailed
Description:  A pair of Marion Plywood Corp. cars at the CN, former C&NW, yard at Appleton Junction, WI on 10 Jul. '14. The crew was sorting cars and assembling the train they intended to haul to New London later that night or early the next morning. Unfortunately there was a slight mishap. It is difficult tell from this angle, but each of GLVX cars has a truck on the ground due to a minor derailment (behind the pile of new ties). You can see a broken rail sticking up beneath GLVX 26. Damage was minor and no one was hurt.
