GB&W Iola, WI Depot and DMIR C-58?
The northeast and northwest walls of the I&N, later GB&W, depot at Iola, WI on 13 May '15. The depot was built in 1894 and served the I&N and GB&W until the line was abandoned on 30 May '58. It became known as “Station 66” when it was owned by the GB&W, because it was located 65.7 miles from Green Bay. After abandonment it served as storage for Iola Cooperative for a while. The Iola Historical Society acquired it in Oct. '79. The bay window, which had been removed years ago, has recently been reconstructed. A wooden DM&IR caboose, numbered C-58, is spotted in front of the depot. The caboose was placed there in 1984. It is numbered C-58 but some references state that the caboose moved to Iola was C-36. Other photographs online purport to show C-58, haggard and for sale, at Ely, MN in Jul. ’12. Both were built by predecessor D&IR, C-36 in '05 and C-58 in '06, both were rebuilt in 1911.
