Album Info:The historic, former Neenah Stove Works facility is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, industrial facility remaining in Neenah, WI. The facility has undergone numerous expansions and name changes in its long history, but if one were to pick a generic, historic name for it, it would need to be Neenah Stove Works because that is what it was referred to for so many years. The second most common generic reference would be the Neenah foundry (not the lowercase f), because for many years it was the only foundry in Neenah. The building dates to 1857, when W. N. and A. K. Moore and B. W. Wells erected a small foundry operated as Moore, Wells & Co. It became Moore & Bro. in 1861 when B. W. Wells left. The business was sold in 1873 and became Smith, Van Ostrand & Leavens, after W. N. Moore moved to Illinois to found the Joliet Stove Works and A. K. Moore passed away. In 1876 (some references state 1878) it was purchased by H. Babcock, D. W. and George O. Bergstrom and operated as Bergstrom Bros. & Co., later Bergstrom Stove Works. George bought out D. W. and Babcocks’ shares in 1904 and it became known as Bergstrom Stove Co. In 1948 the property was sold to Lyall Williams and associates who operated as Valley Supply Corp. in the east end of the building. Hafemeister Machine Corp. moved in to the west end of the building in 1951. Hafemeister was founded in 1937 at Menasha, WI by Louis H. and Robert W. Hafemeister, father and son. They both worked at Menasha Woodenware Co. until the company encouraged them to purchase its machine shop and lease shop space. Hafemeister is still family run. At some point circa the 1960s, Sawyer Paper Co. was a third business operating in the building. The International Children’s Fund moved into the east end of the building circa 1985. The facility was served via WC and SOO for most of its existence. At one point three spurs led to this facility. While not currently served by rail, remnants of at least two of the old spurs remain. Description:  Looking at the southwest wall of the historic Neenah Stove Works, currently occupied by Hafemeister Machine Corp. and International Children's Fund at Neenah, WI, as seen on 6 Jun. ’15. I believe this façade is the original 1857 building, given the low height and cut-stone construction, as opposed to the brick construction and taller stories of the other sections of the building. The 1st floor windows and door appear too close to the ground and much too short, respectively. This is due to the fact that the current street-level is about 3 feet higher than it used to be. This industrial facility has a lengthy and interesting history, please refer to the album description for more detailed information.

Description:  Looking at the southwest wall of the historic Neenah Stove Works, currently occupied by Hafemeister Machine Corp. and International Children's Fund at Neenah, WI, as seen on 6 Jun. ’15. I believe this façade is the first addition to the original 1857 building, which is partially visible on the left. If it is not the first addition, then it would be the second one. You can see that the original arched windows and the entryway have been replaced at some point. The 1st floor windows appear too close to the ground, I think that is due to the fact that the current street-level is about 3 feet higher than it used to be. This industrial facility has a lengthy and interesting history, please refer to the album description for more detailed information.

Description:  Looking at the southwest and southeast walls of the former Neenah Stove Works, currently occupied by Hafemeister Machine Corp., 635 Main St. and International Children's Fund, 619 Main St., at Neenah, WI on 6 Jun. ’15. This view illustrates the four additions to the original 1857 building, the ivy covered facade. You can see that the original arched windows and the entryway have been replaced at some point. The 1st floor windows appear too close to the ground, I think that is due to the fact that the current street-level is about 3 feet higher than it used to be. Title:  Neenah Stove Works
Description:  Looking at the remnants of a sign painted on the southeast wall of the former Neenah Stove Works, currently occupied by Hafemeister Machine Corp., 635 Main St. and International Children's Fund, 619 Main St., at Neenah, WI on 6 Jun. ’15. The sign says, “Valley Supply Corporation, Pipe, Valves, Fittings, Plumbing and Heating Supply.” This view also illustrates why some of the windows on the front of the building are so close to the ground and why the door on in front of the original building is so short, the current street level is about 2-3 feet higher than it used to be. You can see that the original arched windows have been replaced at some point. This industrial facility has a lengthy and interesting history, please refer to the album description for more detailed information.

Description:  Looking southeast at a remnant of a SOO spur that used to serve the historic Neenah Stove Works, currently occupied by Hafemeister Machine Corp. and International Children's Fund at Neenah, WI, as seen on 6 Jun. ’15. The remnants of this spur were pulled up sometime between the date of photograph and 30 Aug. ’15. The west leg of the wye at the north end of the CN, former SOO, yard is a couple of hundred feet beyond this narrow tree line. This industrial facility has a lengthy and interesting history, please refer to the album description for more detailed information.

Neenah Stove Works, et al.
Title:  Neenah Stove Works, et al.
Description:  Looking at the remnants of a billboard painted on the northeast wall of the former Neenah Stove Works, currently occupied by Hafemeister Machine Corp., 635 Main St. and International Children's Fund, 619 Main St., at Neenah, WI on 6 Jun. ’15. The sign says, “Bergstrom Stove Co., Royal Stoves and Ranges.” Royal was the brand name of the line of stoves manufactured by Bergstrom Stove Co. It is interesting to think that this billboard was painted in the late 19th century to attract the attention of people arriving in, or passing through, Neenah by railroad from points west, north, and south. The only people that could see this sign were passengers on a train or a handful of people plying the south end of Little Lake Butte des Morts in small boats.
